Cuba’s Casa de las Américas denounces actions of French PEN Club

Havana, July 10 (RHC) Cuba's Casa de las Américas denounced this Monday actions against the island by a group of French intellectuals, while in their country the police repressed after murdering a young descendant of migrants.

The Cuban institution warns that the PEN Club organization of that European nation published a pamphlet on July seven condemning the alleged repression in the Antillean nation. According to the Casa de las Américas, it is an inventory of commonplaces and slander that agrees with the aging script of anti-Cuban propaganda.

They recalled that this pamphlet was preceded by the harassment against the poet and essayist Nancy Morejón, National Literature Award winner and member of the Casa de las Américas. They expanded on how the PEN Club itself officially requested that the status of honorary president of a poetry festival in Paris be withdrawn.

They warn that the campaign of the French PEN Club for the so called freedom of the Caribbean island coincides with the one carried out from the United States and different European cities, by some artists born in Cuba and living in other countries, to discredit the Cuban Revolution.

The Cuban institution argue that these people intend to give an epic dimension to the events of July 11 and 12, 2021, and to those who during  those days violently challenged public order in some Cuban cities.

Casa de las Américas considered it sad that the French PEN Club ruthlessly attacks the foundations of the island's institutionality and the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba. (Source: PL)
