Governments of Tunisia and Cuba advocate strengthening bilateral cooperation

Havana, Aug 4 (RHC) The president of the Assembly of People's Representatives of Tunisia, Brahim Bouderbala, spoke this Friday with the Cuban ambassador to that State, Máriem Martínez Laurel, about issues of interest to both countries, including cooperation.

During the meeting at the El Bardo Palace, the Cuban representative gave Bouderbala the president of the Cuban National Assembly, Esteban Lazo Hernández, in which he congratulated Bouderbala on his recent election. Through the letter, Lazo Hernández also conveyed the will to intensify relations of friendship and cooperation between the legislative bodies of both nations.

For her part, Martínez Laurel thanked Tunisia's traditional support for the Cuban resolution against the blockade imposed by the United States, which is debated and voted on every year in the United Nations General Assembly.

She also highlighted the positive relations between the two countries on multilateral issues.

The Cuban ambassador referred to the celebration of the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Group of 77 and China, on September 15 and 16, in Havana, in the context of the Cuban Pro Tempore presidency of the Group.

She assured that the participation of a high-level delegation from Tunisia would help to strengthen the Group's voice in the current international context and would be an excellent opportunity to relaunch relations between the two countries.

For his part, Brahim Bouderbala highlighted the importance that Tunisia attaches to its relations with Cuba, which he described as excellent, despite the distance. He highlighted the desire to strengthen and promote bilateral cooperation, especially at the economic, health, tourism and cultural levels.

In addition, he welcomed the desire of the Cuban legislature to strengthen bilateral parliamentary relations, and expressed his willingness to materialize this objective, especially through the formation of the Tunisian-Cuban Parliamentary Friendship Group.

Also participating in the meeting were Ezzedine Tayeb, Deputy Undersecretary to the President of the ARP, in charge of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad; and other members of Parliament and officials of the Tunis Foreign Ministry. (Source: PL)
