Fundamental parliamentary management for Cuba-Angola cooperation

Havana, Aug 21 (RHC) Cuban president Miguel Díaz-Canel considered that parliamentary management is essential to support joint initiatives, seeking to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the island and Angola.

When speaking before Angola’s National Assembly (unicameral Congress), the Cuban president pointed out that Angola is the African country where the Caribbean nation has the most diversified and numerous collaboration.

The head of stated added that there is potential to expand it in mutually advantageous areas, and highlighted the results of the fifteenth session of the intergovernmental commission, where several agreements were signed.

On Monday, other agreements were signed, which is why both parties now have the commitment to implement them ahead.

Díaz-Canel thanked the welcoming words of the President of the Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, and conveyed to Parliament a greeting from the head of Cuba’s National Assembly of People's Power, Esteban Lazo.

Díaz-Canel recalled that Cuban nationality owes a lot to Angola, as numerous people were uprooted from those lands and taken to the island as slaves, to work on the sugar plantations and do domestic chores.

The president described the panorama of the Cuban Parliament, whose tenth legislature began in April and consists of 470 deputies from the 168 municipalities of the country. Of these, it stands out that 55.4 percent are women, second in the world in terms of female presence.

He explained that Cuban deputies are engaged in the approval of new laws that respond to the implementation of the 2019 Constitution, and commented on the importance of both assemblies strengthening ties through parliamentary friendship groups and sharing experiences.

He recognized Angola for being the next venue for the 147th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, to be held in October, a task in which he wished them success and confirmed the participation of a high-level delegation from Cuba. (Source: PL)
