Extraterritorial act of the blockade against Cuba is denounced in France

Havana, Aug 24 (RHC) The French association Cuba Linda denounced this Thursday a new fact attributed to the extraterritoriality of the US blockade against the island, the cancellation of the payment processing platform and risk solutions SumUp.

In a statement, the organization that promotes trips to bring people together specified that for the Fête de l'humanité political-cultural festival, scheduled for September 15-17 in the Paris Region, it had requested this service to facilitate at its stand sale by bank cards. It received the terminal but was later contacted to demand the return of the equipment and the closing of the contract, under article 13 of the general conditions.

According to the association created in 1998, this section refers to the breach of the contract, among other reasons, to prevent involvement in "fraudulent activities, such as money laundering, financing of terrorism or any other criminal activity."

In January 2021, then-President Donald Trump once again placed the island on the unilateral list, a decision upheld by his successor in the White House, Joseph Biden, without reasoning.

Cuba Linda rejected that Europe bends to the laws of the United States, despite the existence of mechanisms adopted by the European Union, such as the Blockade Statute of 1996, aimed at protecting citizens, companies and banks from extraterritorial laws.

The president of the association, Didier Lalande, demanded an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba and its extraterritorial impact. In this sense, he highlighted the holding of a court in Brussels in November to denounce the siege of Washington. (Source: PL)
