Havana, August 31 (RHC)-- Cuba expressed its solidarity and grief to the people and government of South Africa for the loss of human lives caused by an accident in that country.

This was expressed on the social network X, formerly Twitter, by Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, who sent heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

The fire broke out in the early hours of Thursday in a five-story residential building in Johannesburg, South Africa, and has so far injured 43 people and killed 73.

According to Mgcini Tshwaku, head of the city's Public Safety, there was apparently a door that was locked and prevented the occupants from leaving, as many of the victims were found in front of that door.

The main reason for the high death toll, he said, is that there were many partitions and internal doors on several levels of the structure.

The precise causes of the incident are not known at the moment. (Source:PL)
