Tribute to Chile at Casa de las Américas in Cuba
Havana, Sep 4 (RHC) Cuba's Casa de las Américas commemorates today the 50th anniversary of the military coup against the government of President Salvador Allende in Chile, with cultural activities that will take place throughout the month of September.
According to the La Ventana Information Portal, the tribute begins this Friday at 4:00 p.m. local time, with the inauguration of the exhibition Chile en carteles: memoria y resistencia, on the second floor of the cultural institution. The exhibition brings together posters donated from the 1970s to present day belonging to the Haydee Santamaría Art of Our America collection.
Meanwhile, on September 11, at 5:00 p.m., in the Che Guevara room of the institution, the concert Decalustro in Chile. 50 Years: Coup and Resistance is scheduled, in which voices from Cuba and Chile will unite against oblivion.
Among the participants are the Chilean Cecilia Concha-Laborde, the Chilean troubadour residing in Cuba, Tato Ayres, and the Cubans Ariel Díaz, Eduardo Sosa, Heidi Igualada, Juan Carlos Pérez and Marta Campos.
For its part, the Mariano Gallery will host on September 14 the inauguration of the exhibition Chilean Popular Art at Home, with pieces that make up the prestigious collection. These include the black ceramics from Quinchamalí donated by President Salvador Allende.
The Che Guevara room will also host the performance for the first time in Cuba by the Chilean singer-songwriter Manuel García, a figure with a long and recognized career in his country and linked to genres such as popular song and new folklore. The concert Manuel García: El Caminante in Cuba, reserved for September 15, at 5:00 p.m., refers to his 2022 album El Caminante.
The record production includes his most emblematic songs in duets with artists such as the Brazilian Lenine, the Peruvian Eva Ayllón, his compatriot Mon Laferte, the Cuban Silvio Rodríguez and the Argentinian Pedro Aznar.
Other exhibitions will be inaugurated in November, an exhibition that includes art-books by Chilean artists who are part of the institution's collections, and the one titled Los cuerpos, los territorios, las luchas. 1973-2023, which will bring together works of contemporary Chilean art in the Latin American Gallery of Casa de las Américas.
