Havana, September 4 (RHC)-- The Manuel Martínez Prieto elementary school, in the capital's Marianao municipality, was the venue for the National Act for the start of the 2023-2024 school year, which was headed by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and the member of the Political Bureau and Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz.
The head of state wished success and sent congratulations to children across the country who return to the classroom this Monday, reported the Presidency of the Republic on its X account, formerly Twitter.
During the activity, Education Minister Naima Trujillo described the new school term as an exceptional moment, when the general education system opens its doors once again for the benefit of all students.
Trujillo Barreto recalled that 1,622,415 children, adolescents and young people will study in more than 10,800 general education institutions.
The head of MINED acknowledged the teaching staff for continuing to contribute to the education of the new generations with their daily sacrifice, despite the current complex situation.
She thanked the workers of the most dissimilar entities that have contributed so that the country's schools open their doors in the best possible conditions, such as this elementary school, Manuel Martínez Prieto, which has been renovated and decorated so that the 371 students, from preschool to sixth grade, can have a satisfactory school year.
After the inauguration of the 2023-2024 school year, Díaz-Canel and Marrero Cruz visited the library, the computer lab and sixth and fourth grade classrooms, where they exchanged with teachers, girls and boys, guided by the school's principal, Professor Rosa Ibis Hernández Valdés.
The National Act for the beginning of the new school year was also attended by the member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, Jorge Luis Broche Lorenzo, head of the Department of Attention to the Social Sector, and Deputy Prime Minister Jorge Luis Perdomo Di-Lella.
Also in attendance were the first secretary of the provincial committee of the Party in Havana, Luis Antonio Torres Iríbar; the governor of the territory, Yanet Hernández Pérez, and the first secretary of the National Committee of the UJC, Aylín Álvarez García, as well as directors of MINED and other organizations.
