Havana, September 7 (RHC)-- Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, arrived Thursday in Sandino, in the province of Pinar del Río, to evaluate the progress of the recovery after the passage of Hurricane Idalia, last August.
Through the social network X, formerly Twitter, TelePinar shared images of the meeting, which was also attended by Jorge Luis Perdomo Di-Lella, deputy prime minister of Cuba.
During the tour, he exchanged with a wood cutting brigade of the GAF Guanahacabibes Company, which supports tobacco companies with its production in the recovery of tobacco natural cure houses. More than 11,500 houses were affected by the winds of the previous hurricane Ian.
In the province of Pinar del Río, Hurricane Idalia affected the electrical system, caused heavy rainfall, sea penetrations, tree falls and more than 800 people were evacuated.
The Head of State, accompanied by other ministers and authorities of the province, visited the Hermanos Lazo school, one of the 21 centers recovered from among the 52 that were affected by the passage of Idalia, and which began the school year without difficulties with an enrollment of 244 secondary and pre-university students.
