Cuba hosts 3rd International Meeting of Documentary Heritage

Havana, Sept 18 (RHC) The José Martí National Library of Cuba hosts today and until September 22 the Third International Meeting on the Preservation of Documentary Heritage: Experiences and Challenges, a space to share experiences among professionals in the field.

Organized by the entity itself, the meeting in Havana will encourage the exchange of experiences on the preservation of documentary heritage, in national and international contexts, where conservation, restoration, digitization and digital preservation processes are included.

The opening day includes the conference Preserving the documentary history of Cuba in the José Martí National Library, by the researcher-restorer of this cultural institution Osdiel R. Ramírez.

This Monday's program also includes the inauguration of the exhibition Between necessity and footprint, which will be presented by the director of the Library, Omar Valiño, and the curator of the exhibition, Osdiel R. Ramírez.

According to a press release, every city or town needs to preserve the bibliographic funds treasured in its institutions, to tell the story and to contribute to this purpose the event was organized.

Another objective of the event is to help generate ideas and proposals that strengthen the safeguarding of documentary and digital heritage with a view from the south. It also aims at bringing together curators from library and artistic institutions, collectors and representatives of the private sector, whose work is related to books or other paper documents.
