Havana, October 9 (RHC)-- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, highlighted Monday the victory of the national baseball team against Curacao in the 5th Caribbean Cup, held in Puerto Rico.

In his profile on the social network X, the dignitary congratulated the Cuban team for its victory, the first in this regional competition, after having played in the finals of the last two editions, without winning.

With a decisive home run by Erisbel Arruebarrena, this Sunday the Cuban team, led by Pinero mentor Armando Jhonson, defeated Curacao 3-1 and won the regional championship.

The victory broke an eight-year streak of Cuba without winning an international title in this sport.

The last victory had been at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Veracruz 2014, with Victor Mesa as mentor.
