Havana, October 12 (Web Network)-- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel congratulated on Thursday the inhabitants of Matanzas on the 330th anniversary of the founding of what he considers one of the most dazzling cities in the country.

In his account on the social network X (formerly Twitter), the dignitary highlighted the history, culture and traditions of the western city, located some 100 kilometers east of Havana, and especially the courage of its daughters and sons.

Díaz-Canel accompanied his message with the hashtags #MatanzasEnamora and #Matanzas330, and a Cuban flag.

Matanzas was founded on October 12, 1693, on the shores of a beautiful bay and between the Yumurí and San Juan rivers.

It had a previous planimetric planning, adjusted to the Laws of the Indies, which makes it the first modern city of Cuba due to its singularity.

It is also known as the Athens of Cuba, for its intense cultural life; and the City of Bridges. It has 29 in total, four of them centuries-old, and the Bacunayagua Bridge, the highest in the country, is one of the seven wonders of Cuban civil engineering (Sources: @DiazCanelB and Ecured).
