Japanese Culture Day begin in Cuba

Havana, Nov 2 (RHC) The Japanese Culture Days in Havana begin today with the opening of the photographic exhibition “Elegy of Japan”, in the Marqués de Arcos Palace of the Historic Center.

The event will take place from November 2 to 11 with a varied program, including this day's exhibition at 3:00 p.m., which consists of a series of images selected by the Japan Camera Industry Institute.

With this set, lens artist Haruo Toyama takes the public closer to the evolution that the Japanese achieved with their way of life and traditions over time.

For November 7 at 4:00 p.m., a conference by Yves Schlirf is scheduled for the Wallonia Showcase, also in the old part of the city. Schlirf will address the presence of manga in the Franco-Belgian market of comic, in particular, the experience of Kana, a publishing house founded by him in the mid-90s.

The National Museum of Fine Arts will be the headquarters of the actions that will take place on November 8. That day at 3:00 p.m., in the Hemicycle of the Universal Art Building, the Japanese ambassador to Cuba, Hirata Kenji, will give a lecture on traditional Japanese painting.

At 4:00 p.m. local time on the same day, in the Transitional Room of the gallery, the ukiyo-e exhibition “Fifty-Three Stations of Tōkaido” will open.

On November 9, the Wallonia Showcase hosts another exhibition, from 4-KOMA, the name given to four-vignette mangas.

An edition of “Momotaro” will also be presented, one of the most popular stories in the Japanese oral tradition. There will also be a demonstration of kamishibai, an ancient way of telling stories in which paper illustrations and texts are combined.

On November 10, another conference will be held at Quinta de los Molinos by the Japanese diplomat about the characteristics of the Japanese garden and afterwards, a bonsai exhibition from the Bonsai Habana collective will be inaugurated.

The closing of the Japanese Culture Days will take place on November 11 at the Wallonia Showcase, with a concert of anime songs, an exhibition of martial arts with various styles of karate, and the award ceremony of the 4-koma contest organized by that institution together with the Embassy of Japan and the cosplay contest.

The Japanese Culture Day in Havana is dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the migrations to Cuba from the so-called Country of the Rising Sun. (Source: PL)
