Madrid, September 17 (RHC) -– One of the Cuban Five, Fernando Gonzalez, expressed his appreciation for the support received from Spanish activists and organizations.

Gonzalez made the remarks upon arriving in the Spanish capital, Madrid, to attend a celebration organized each year by the Communist Party.

Gonzalez, who is also vice president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, ICAP, urged Spaniards to continue demanding the release of Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero and Ramón Labañino, who have been in U.S. prisons since 1998 for preventing terror actions against Cuba.

Fernando and René González were also imprisoned and returned to Cuba after fully serving their sentences, an unjust punishment that followed a trial labeled by UN jurists as “arbitrary.”

As part of his visit to Spain, Fernando Gonzalez will meet with members of the Federation of Cuban Residents in Spain, representatives of associations of solidarity with Cuba, and will participate in a concert organized by the State Committee for the Freedom of the Cuban Five.

More than 300 Spanish politicians recently signed a letter calling on U.S. President Barack Obama to release the remaining three Cubans who have been locked up in prison for 16 years.
