Havana, November 15 (RHC)-- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel thanked on Wednesday the international recognition for the promotion and protection of human rights on the island, after the presentation of the national report to the periodic review of the United Nations on the subject.

Díaz-Canel also highlighted that in this fourth cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States was rejected as a flagrant and systematic violation of the human rights of the Cuban people.
He assured that his government welcomes the constructive and respectful recommendations received in the procedure, which since 2006 has been carried out every four and a half years to analyze the human rights situation in all UN member states.
The head of Cuban diplomacy highlighted this day before the HRC, that since the previous review in 2018, Cuba has taken significant steps in updating its legal and institutional framework for the realization of all human rights for all Cubans, and exemplified with the popular referendum that approved the new constitution in 2019 with 86 percent support for the constitutional text.
"Of 226 recommendations accepted in the previous UPR, 215 were fulfilled and progress is being made in the implementation of the remaining 11," he emphasized.
