Fight against gender violence a priority for women in Cuba

Havana, December 14 (RHC)-- The fight against gender violence is today one of the priorities for women in Ciego de Avila to strengthen their role in society and achieve their total empowerment.

That was one of the issues discussed by the delegates to the Provincial Assembly XI Congress of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) in this province, held in recent days in the territory.

Other issues analyzed were the incorporation of women in defense tasks and the strengthening of the work of the women's organization to preserve the achievements of the Revolution.

During the meeting, Yeneyd González, professor and researcher of the Máximo Gómez University of Avila, urged to educate with a gender approach in the communities, since there are many women in the country who have been violated and for some reason do not ask for help.

The young woman from Avila highlighted the good results of the community project ¨A conquistar el futuro¨ (To conquer the future), an initiative that arose in her neighborhood of residence and sponsored by the FMC, where they work with children in vulnerable situations.

Through social networks, she also pointed out that they raise awareness about gender violence, specifically in a WhatsApp group, in which they socialize several ideas and message lines so that neighbors acquire knowledge on the subject.

Another experience that emerged from the women's meeting in the province of Avila was presented by Cecilia Hernández, who stated that the support of the federates in the community is important and highlighted the need for dialogue with young people, mainly on issues related to sexual health and the prevention of teenage pregnancy.  (Source: Prensa Latina)
