Santiago de Cuba, January 1 (ACN) -- Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, leader of the Revolution, and Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, led this evening in Santiago de Cuba the political-cultural event for the 65th anniversary of the Triumph of the Revolution.

More than one thousand people from Santiago, representing the whole country, and members of the solidarity movements with Cuba gathered at the Céspedes Park, to celebrate the victory of the rebel forces in January 1959.

Actors from the Macubá Company, directed by National Theater Award winner Fátima Patterson, singer-songwriters Eduardo Sosa, Nelson Valdés, the Ballet and the Orfeón Santiago, and other exponents of the cultural talent of the demarcation, performed to take us through transcendental moments of the Cuban socialist project and paid tribute to the heroes and martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the sake of freedom and social justice.

The gala pays tribute to the legacy of Fidel Castro, historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, who taught us to turn setbacks into victories and is an example and guide for present and future generations.
