Havana, January 4 (RHC) -- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel congratulated the members of the Family Doctor and Nurse Program, an initiative that celebrates its 40th anniversary on Thursday.

From his account on the social network X, the head of state expressed his congratulations and sent a hug to the more than 43 thousand members of the program, whom he described as the mainstay of the Caribbean country's health system.

Díaz-Canel stressed in his message that this initiative was one of the most innovative ideas of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.

For his part, the Minister of Public Health, José Ángel Portal, highlighted on the platform that since its foundation, the Family Doctor and Nurse Program has been consolidated little by little, and although it is still perfectible, it speaks of the dedication, commitment and sensitivity with which it reaches Cuban neighborhoods.

Even in the midst of shortages and material limitations, the development of Family Medicine in Cuba has made it possible to bring medical care ever closer to the communities and to make progress in several health indicators through promotion, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of multiple diseases, he said.

The Minister acknowledged those who, throughout these four decades, have contributed to the development of this noble program supported by the Cuban State and government. (Source: PL)
