
Havana, January 8 (RHC) -- With the presence of the President of the Republic Miguel Díaz-Canel, the central commemorative act for the 65th anniversary of the entry of the rebels to Havana, led by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, is taking place in the capital of our country.
As on the morning of January 8, 1959, the Caravan of Freedom entered the capital's territory this Monday through the municipality of Cotorro, and from there it traveled along different stretches of important arteries such as Carretera Central, Vía Blanca, Avenida del Malecón, 23 and Avenida 41, among others, until concluding the tour at the Ciudad Escolar Libertad (former Columbia camp), where the event will be commemorated.
Inhabitants of this city gathered at different points along the way to relive the feelings of that January and with several stops in key places, such as in front of the old buildings of the Presidential Palace, where Fidel addressed the people of Havana, and Radio Centro, where he greeted journalists and other media workers who came to welcome the bearded.
As every year today, cards are given to young people accrediting them as members of the Union of Young Communists and the Communist Party of Cuba, among other activities to commemorate this date.
Accompanying the moment were members of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the PCC Esteban Lazo, president of the National Assembly of People's Power; Roberto Morales Ojeda, secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the PCC; Teresa Amarelle Boué, secretary general of the Federation of Cuban Women, among other authorities of the Party and the Government, along with young people and fighters who reedited the event and the representation of the people who receive them (Source: ACN).
