Havana, January 9 (RHC) -- Manuel Marrero Cruz, Cuba's Prime Minister, expressed his sorrow, through his X account, as he remembered today the four combatants who were victims of the Crime of Tarará in 1992.

The head of government expressed his sorrow when recalling that tragic event that took place on January 9, 1992, where the lives of 4 members of the Ministry of the Interior (Minint) were blinded while trying to prevent an illegal exit through Tarará, protecting the Cuban coasts.

In the same social network, the Minint paid tribute to Orosmán Dueñas, Yuri Gómez and Rafael Guevara, killed in the action, as well as Rolando Pérez Quintosa who died days later from the injuries caused.

With the purpose of reaching U.S. shores and to take advantage of the Cuban Adjustment Act, 7 assailants broke into the Tarará Nautical Base, on the Havana coast, causing the death of soldier Orosmán Dueñas Valero, of the Border Guard Troops, third sergeant Yuri Gómez Reinoso, of the National Revolutionary Police, and custodian Rafael Guevara Borges, who were treacherously attacked and riddled with bullets.

In the action, First Sergeant Rolando Pérez Quintosa, an agent of the PNR, was wounded and died after 37 days fighting for his life due to bullet wounds.

The quick action of the Minint forces, the Unified System of Surveillance and Protection, and the action of the people, captured in a few hours in La Boca, in Mariel, three of the perpetrators and the others were arrested later.

In February, the sentence of Case 3 of that year (1992) was carried out with the death penalty being carried out against the two most responsible for the crime.   Others involved received different sanctions, including up to 30 years in prison  (Source: ACN).
