Havana, February 26 (RHC) -- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel celebrated Sunday the victory over the United States of his country's basketball team in the Copa America 2025 qualifiers.
Through his account on the social network X, the president sent congratulations to the players and recalled that a Cuban team had not beaten the Americans in that modality since 1971.
The head of state described the victory as a historic, sensational and hopeful event.
The Cuban basketball team dominated the U.S. team 81-67, during the second game between the two countries for the qualification to the America's Cup scheduled for next year.
On this occasion, the Cuban team played the game notably limited by the denial of visas to four of its players, among them Bombino, who was the most outstanding player in the duel held at the Coliseum of the Ciudad Deportiva in Havana. (Source: Prensa Latina)
