Cuba re-elected vice president of the Committee for Palestinian Rights
Havana, March 11 (RHC) Cuba was re-elected today as vice president of the Committee for the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, a United Nations entity that promotes greater international awareness on that issue.
The island’s permanent representative to the organization, Gerardo Peñalver, was selected for the position along with his counterparts from Indonesia, Namibia and Nicaragua.
Meanwhile, Malaysia's permanent ambassador to the United Nations, Ahmad Faisal Muhamad, will occupy the position of rapporteur and also vice president.
In a message on his X account, the also first vice minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba assured he will assume such responsibility with the commitment to not give up in the denunciation of Israel's crimes and to a genuine peace process in the Middle East.
The Committee was created in 1975 by the United Nations General Assembly with the mandate to recommend a roadmap for independence and sovereignty for the Palestinians, as well as to promote the return to their homes and properties, of which they were dispossessed.
Over the years, the 193-member forum has gradually expanded the functions of the Committee supporting the creation of the State of Palestine, alongside Israel, within secure and recognized borders. As part of its functions, this organization also seeks to mobilize international aid and assistance for the Palestinian people. (Source: PL)
