Havana, April 6 (RHC)-- Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, recalled on Saturday in his X account that on April 6, 1960, U.S. politician Lester D. Mallory sent a memorandum to Eisenhower, then president of the United States (U.S.), with suggestions to destroy Cuba's economy.
That was how an obscure undersecretary of state entered the history of Cuba: by laying bare the genocidal essence of the empire and its plans for intervention over the interests of the people, the president wrote on the social network.
For his part, Manuel Marrero Cruz, member of the Political Bureau and Prime Minister, pointed out that this document explains the real objective of the cruel U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade against the largest of the Antilles: to suffocate the country and that deprivations provoke social outbreak.
"It is 64 years since the Lester Mallory Memorandum, where the real objective of the cruel economic, commercial and financial blockade of #USA vs #Cuba is explained: to suffocate our country and that deprivations provoke social outbreak. Our denunciation continues: down with the blockade!"
The Cuban Foreign Ministry also highlighted the date, where the U.S. government set down in writing the foundations of its genocidal blockade policy against Cuba, which is still in force along with other indirect instruments of aggression.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla stated on the social network X that despite everything, the US government has failed in its ultimate goal, but with severe impact on Cuban families.
"Since 1960, the US government has tried to deny Cuba money and supplies to reduce nominal and real wages, with the aim of provoking hunger, desperation and the overthrow of the government. It has failed in its ultimate goal, but with severe impact on Cuban families."
In 1960, Deputy Secretary of State Lester D. Mallory recommended punishing the Cuban population's support for Fidel Castro, leader of the Revolution, with hunger and other deprivations.
"The majority of Cubans support Castro...the only foreseeable way to detract from his domestic support is through disenchantment and dissatisfaction arising from economic malaise and material hardship...every possible means must be quickly employed to weaken the economic life of Cuba..... a course of action which, being as skillful and discreet as possible, will make the greatest progress in depriving Cuba of money and supplies, in order to reduce its financial resources and real wages, to bring about hunger, despair and the overthrow of the Government," Mallory wrote in his message.
Mallory's recommendations have since laid the foundation for what has been U.S. policy against Cuba. (ACN)
