South Africa's Freedom Day commemorates the end of the apartheid system
Havana, April 27 (RHC) Cuba today congratulated the people and Government of South Africa on Freedom Day, a date commemorating the 30th anniversary of the end of the apartheid system in the African country.
The Cuban Foreign Ministry ratified on X the will to continue strengthening the relations of friendship and brotherhood between both nations.
On April 27, 1994, the first multiracial elections were held in South Africa, an event that consolidated the end of apartheid and allowed the promotion of national identity. Nelson Mandela, the anti-colonial fighter freed after 27 years, won those elections and went down in history as the first black president of his country. (Source: PL)
