Havana, May 11 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel held a meeting with the director general of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Gerd Müller, whos is visiting the island.

The president indicated in his profile on X that he thanked the UN official for the support provided to Cuba in various cooperation projects to promote inclusive and sustainable industrial development in the country.

At the meeting, Díaz-Canel valued the high significance of the presence of the highest representative of UNIDO in Cuba, based on the historical ties with this entity.

The head of state highlighted the results of cooperation during the five-year period, which he described as successful and also predicted favorable results for the future.

He also recognized UNIDO's support for the Country Program that is developed within borders, aligned with industrial development, one of the strategic axes of the National Economic and Social Development Program until 2030.

The Cuban president listed various areas that constitute priorities in national industrial development: those linked to food production, the energy sector and the transition towards a new energy matrix based on renewable energy sources and the pharmaceutical industry.

UNIDO Country Programs promote Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development and ensure greater effectiveness in the mobilization of resources, and the strengthening of alliances between technical cooperation activities.

At the same time, this organization articulates efforts with the United Nations Development Assistance Framework, which constitutes a roadmap towards the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 agenda.
