Cuba calls to stop desertification on World Environment Day

Havana, June 5 (RHC) Cuba today joins the global celebrations for World Environment Day with a broad program of activities, focused on reflecting on the loss of biodiversity and desertification.

This year, the date is dedicated to land restoration, desertification, and resilience to the effects of drought, aspects closely related to the loss of biodiversity. It also addresses the deterioration of ecosystems at a planetary level and whose rehabilitation can positively influence the reduction of the effects of climate change and guarantee the food security of nations.

The program of activities includes audiovisual screenings, theoretical events, conferences, planting of trees throughout the national territory, socialization of public good messages on virtual social networks and the mass media, and activities with the communities.

It is aimed at raising awareness about the need to restore ecosystems to stop land degradation processes and recover their response capacities in the face of extreme drought events.

Likewise, this year’s activities include the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Cuba Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment. (Source: PL)
