UN High Representative for enhanced cooperation in the face of sanctions

United Nations, Jul 12 (RHC) The President of the 78th UN General Assembly, Dennis Francis, said today that cooperation and solidarity among nations is essential in the face of coercive measures.

"This is a time for the international community as a whole to demonstrate its ability and indeed its willingness to work together in solidarity to address today's global challenges in the common interest of all," Francis said in response to a question from Prensa Latina.

He recalled that every year since 1992 the General Assembly has approved the draft resolution on the need to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba.

This document, presented by the Caribbean nation before the Forum, reflects the effects of the siege maintained by Washington against the island for more than six decades.

"In this context, it is essential that cooperation and solidarity prevail among all nations," the diplomat said.

The head of the General Assembly traveled to Cuba at the end of June with an agenda focused on ratifying the Caribbean country's contribution to multilateralism, cooperation, regional and global challenges in progress.

After several meetings with high-level representatives of the Cuban government, the president of the world's largest political forum praised Cuba's contributions to balance perspective and justice in global discussions.

"The voice of Cuba is the voice of reason," said Francis, who also congratulated the Island for its work at the helm of the presidency of the G77 and China, a bloc that groups 134 countries, in 2023. (Source: Prensa Latina)
