Angola commemorates Cuba's National Day of Rebellion

Luanda, Jul 25 (RHC) Cubans and Angolans today commemorated the 71st anniversary of the attacks on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks on July 26, 1953, known as the National Rebellion Day in Cuba.

The ambassador of the Caribbean nation in Angola, Oscar León, and the vice-president of Antex for Angola, Jaime Bonilla, presided over the event, which was attended by the ambassadors of Venezuela, Teresa Orsini, and Nicaragua, Darling Ríos, as well as the vice-president of the Forum of Combatants of the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale, José María de Sá.

The Secretary General of the Angola-Cuba Friendship Association, Fernando Jaime, a representation of Angolan fighters, collaborators from the island and Antex workers, among other guests, also participated in the ceremony.

In the central words of the act, Bonilla recalled the heroism of the young people who, under the leadership of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, led the events of July 26 to overthrow the tyranny of Fulgencio Batista (1952-1958).

The military action was a setback and many of the attackers were killed, but it was the small engine that drove the big engine of the revolution, he stressed.

He highlighted the example of solidarity and internationalism that Cuba has given to the world, and how the Revolution, born of events such as that of July 26, 1953, has achieved the well-being of the Cuban people and contributed to the development of other peoples, including the Angolans, since many of their children have been educated in Cuba, in addition to the thousands of technicians who have passed through this country.

We are here not only for words, but for feelings, he stressed. We are eternally grateful for the sacrifice of the noble Cuban people to help our country, he added. (Source: Prensa Latina)
