Sancti Spíritus, July 26 (RHC)-- Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, Leader of the Cuban Revolution, and the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, preside this Friday in Sancti Spíritus over the central act for the 71st anniversary of the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks.

Representing the people of Cuba, more than 5,000 people from Sancti Spiritus gathered at the Plaza Mayor General Serafín Sánchez Valdivia, in the main city, to highlight the comprehensive performance of the territory in the last stage, which included the lowest infant mortality rate in the country.

Around 140 friends from 24 countries also came to the city to commemorate this historic event led by the Commander in Chief, Fidel Castro Ruz, on July 26, 1953.

Along with Raúl, and as part of the historic generation, were also the Commander of the Revolution and assailant of Moncada, Ramiro Valdés Menéndez, as well as José Ramón Machado Ventura, Commander of the Rebel Army.  Also present were the highest authorities of the Party, the Government and the mass organizations in the province.
