Caricom reiterates call for the U.S. to lift blockade on Cuba

Havana, Jul 31 (RHC) The 47th Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (Caricom) reiterated Tuesday in Saint George's its call for the lifting of the U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade of Cuba.

At the close of the meeting of the regional organization, the participants expressed their deep concern over the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the largest Antillean Island as a result of the unjust measure imposed by Washington for the past 62 years.

“In light of the gravity of the humanitarian situation, the Caricom Heads of Government agreed to provide material support to assist Cuba,” they stressed at the meeting held in Grenada.

Caricom also considers the continued inclusion of Cuba by the U.S. State Department on its list of countries sponsoring terrorism to be wrong and offensive and reiterates its call for its immediate removal from that list.

The blockade is a massive, flagrant and systematic violation of the human rights of all Cubans whose measures are aimed at affecting the most sensitive sectors of society and creating despair among the people; furthermore, it has remained the central axis of the United States policy towards the Island.
