Regional workshop on physical security inspection of the transportation of radioactive materials began in Havana

 

Havana, Sep 3 (RHC) The regional workshop on inspection of the physical security of the transport of radioactive materials began this Monday in Havana, based at the Palco Hotel and sponsored by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

It is organized by the Protection Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior, together with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment.

Representatives from 12 countries attend: Cuba, Argentina, Belgium, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, Paraguay, Spain, Uruguay, Venezuela.

IAEA experts will provide training to participants, nationals and foreigners, on the registration that is carried out when transporting radioactive materials.

The welcoming speech was given by Alexis Silva Comezañas, head of the hazardous substances department of the Protection Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior and director of the conclave; and Mr. Jhino Chung, representing the IAEA.

The closing of the event is scheduled for Thursday, and will address issues related to the need for physical transportation security, its conceptualization and purpose, the physical security regime for the transportation of radioactive materials in Cuba, planning, preparation and carrying out inspections, among others.
