Ombudsman in Cuba works for the well-being of vulnerable people

Havana, September 13 (RHC)-- The National Directorate of the Ombudsman of Cuba is carrying out multiple actions today to guarantee and restore the exercise of the rights of people in a situation of socio-legal vulnerability.

The First Deputy Minister of Justice, Rosabel Gamón, explained in the television program Hacemos Cuba that the Ombudsman is a structure that is part of the Ministry of Justice and has representation in all the provinces of the Caribbean nation.

She explained that the institution has its legal bases in the 2019 Constitution, as well as in the Code of Procedure and the Family Code.

For his part, the director of the Ombudsman's Office, Alejandro Redondo, specified that any Cuban jurist can work in the organization, even if he is retired, with the exception of those who work as judges, prosecutors or notaries.

He commented that when a case of various kinds arrives, the Ombudsman's Office prepares a multidisciplinary team of doctors, psychologists, sociologists and psychiatrists, among others, who enable the corresponding guidance, orientation and care.

We offer, he added, advice, support and participation in each of the procedures and judicial processes in which the applicant is involved.

Since its creation in 2023, the Ombudsman's Office has registered a total of 494 cases throughout the country, according to data released by the Granma newspaper.

The institution acts as a legal resource with special emphasis on the protection of children, the elderly or those in vulnerable situations, as well as victims of manifestations of violence, discriminatory treatment and non-compliance with guarantees.
