Havana, October 5 (RHC) -- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President of the Republic, Miguel Diaz-Canel paid tribute this Friday to Commander Ernesto Che Guevara (1928-1967) at the memorial that holds his remains in the central city of Santa Clara.

In his X account, the Cuban leader wrote: “We have been all day in Santa Clara; first at the Party Plenary; then together with my fellow deputies in several production and service centers; and finally at the accountability meeting. We could not miss the tribute to Che, paradigm of revolutionary and communist”.

On October 14, 1997, in his capacity as first secretary of the PCC in the province of Villa Clara, Diaz-Canel headed the reception of the Argentine-Cuban commander's challenges, after his transfer from Bolivia where he fell in combat on October 9, 1967.

On that occasion, upon receiving the ossuaries of Che and other internationalist combatants, he said: “Che once again enters Santa Clara victorious”.  (Source: Prensa Latina)
