Kingstown, October 27 (RHC)-- Saint Vincent and the Grenadines celebrates this Sunday 45 years of independence from the United Kingdom and the date comes amid challenges due to factors such as climate change and the devastation caused by Hurricane Beryl.

The Caribbean nation organized an extensive commemorative program that includes activities within the territory and in international places such as Niagara Falls and the iconic Empire State Building in New York, which will be illuminated with the colors of the Saint Vincentian flag in honor of the anniversary.

In the evening, a parade will go through the center of this capital with blocks of military personnel and artists who will show both the identity elements of culture and heritage, as well as aspects of contemporary art.

According to authorities, the celebration activities seek to turn the gaze towards the socio-political and economic trajectory of the country since it became a parliamentary monarchy in 1979 until today.

They also intend to visualize the challenges of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines due to the devastating impact on the development of problems such as climate change, the reduction of external financial assistance and the global instability derived from geopolitical tensions.

Countries such as Nicaragua sent messages of congratulations to the Government in the last hours and ratified their will to take new steps to raise the level of bilateral relations.
