European Union says lifting the blockade would facilitate economic opening of Cuba

Havana, Nov 1 (RHC) The European Union today expressed support for the lifting of the economic, commercial, and financial embargo imposed on Cuba by the United States, stating that this will contribute to the economic opening of the country and benefit the people.

Following the United Nations General Assembly's demand for the end of the siege, the EU delegation emphasized that this measure has had a negative impact on the economy of the Caribbean nation, and added that foreign trade and investment in Cuba have been hindered by the framework established by the United States in 1962.

The UN General Assembly's request last week was once again firm in its call for an end to the embargo against the largest of the Antilles, with 187 countries voting in favor, two against (the United States and Israel), and one abstention (Moldova).

Since 1992, this forum of 193 nations has maintained a strong and almost unanimous stance against this set of unilateral and hostile actions, which have resulted in total losses estimated at $499 billion over the past six decades. (Source: Prensa Latina)
