Cuba and Vietnam reiterate willingness to further deepen ties

Havana, Nov 2 (RHC) The president of the National Assembly of Vietnam, Tran Thanh Man, confirmed the desire to further deepen the relationship of solidarity between his country and Cuba, in a meeting with his Cuban counterpart, Esteban Lazo.

Sixty-four years after the establishment of diplomatic relations, the close ties forged by Presidents Ho Chi Minh and Fidel Castro have continued to evolve into an exceptional relationship based on high levels of political trust.

The head of the Vietnamese legislature stressed that regular exchanges are essential for the continued strengthening and development of this relationship. He also expressed his gratitude to the Caribbean island for its deep affection for the late Communist Party, the late General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Nguyen Phu Trong.

For his part, Lazo emphasized the significance of his just begun working visit, and agreed with his host that high-level exchanges contribute to the strengthening of ties, particularly between the legislative bodies.

Prior to the talks, Tran and Lazo toured a photo exhibition in the main hall of the National Assembly, which showcased key moments of high-level delegations' visits in recent decades.

In late September, prior to the state visit of President To Lam to the island, the first session of the Vietnam-Cuba Interparliamentary Cooperation Committee was held in Havana, which resulted in the signing of a joint statement reaffirming the commitment to uphold and enhance the special bonds of solidarity, friendship, and traditional cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Lazo recalled that both countries have shared legislative experiences, constitutional reforms, and parliamentary functions, as an expression of the importance of permanent exchanges between socialist nations. (Source: PL)
