President of Cuban parliament concludes visit to Laos

Havana, Nov 5 (RHC) The President of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba, Esteban Lazo, concludes his official visit to Laos on the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with that Asian country.

On the final day, Lazo and his delegation visited the dry port of Thanelang, the first phase in the development of the Vientiane logistics park.

Built at a cost of $125 million and put into operation in December 2021, coinciding with the opening of the China-Laos high-speed railway, the port saves time and transportation costs, and allows Laos to gain competitiveness.

The president of the Cuban National Assembly commented on the principles that ensure the proper functioning of such ports, and mentioned the need for shared interests and an exhaustive economic analysis to support them.

He also took advantage of the exchange with the managers of the Thanelang dry port and the future Vientiane logistics park to inform them about the characteristics of the Mariel Special Development Zone, whose bay allows docking of ships of any draft.

For a nation like Laos, he stressed, this kind of infrastructure is a treasure that fosters its development.

This Tuesday, the Cuban high-level delegation will also visit the Laos-Cuba Friendship High School and Pre-University, inaugurated four years ago in the Saythany district of the capital, where a bust has been erected in honor of the Cuban national hero Josí Martí.

As part of the program, the group will also visit the Museum of the Lao National Hero Kaysone Phomvihane, whose visit to Cuba in 1976 is being celebrated during these 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations. (Source: Prensa Latina)
