Havana, November 9 (RHC)-- The Attorney General's Office (FGR) of Cuba is prosecuting citizens for crimes against public order and aggression against authorities during recent weather events and the energy crisis, the institution reported on Saturday.
In the provinces of Havana, Mayabeque (west), and Ciego de Ávila (center), the FGR will file criminal charges for crimes of attack, public disorder and damage to individuals, whose actions have caused injuries and disturbances of order, the note states.
According to the judicial entity, the defendants were given the precautionary measure of provisional imprisonment, taking into account the elements presented by the investigative bodies of the Ministry of the Interior.
The FGR in these territories is working on the investigation and conclusion of criminal proceedings for their presentation to the competent courts, and draws attention to the fact that “facts of this nature are contrary to the selfless and supportive attitude of all those who, in the current circumstances, dedicate themselves to the tasks of recovering the country.”
It points out that the work to restore and “maintain the vitality of the services must be accompanied by a climate of order, discipline and respect towards the authorities, officials, their agents or assistants in the performance of their functions.”
Likewise, the judicial entity reiterates to citizens “the need for respect for socialist legality, the proper exercise of their rights and the fulfillment of their duties and the correct observance of the rules of social coexistence,” it concludes.
Cuba has been affected in the last 15 days by two tropical cyclones (Oscar in the east and Rafael in the west) that have caused severe damage to the economy, housing, service infrastructure and, in particular, to the National Electric Power System, which has also been affected by the lack of fuel due to the harsh economic blockade by the United States government.
