Havana, November 13 (RHC) -- For the second consecutive week, the President of the National Defense Council, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez visits the province of Mayabeque, one of the territories where Hurricane Rafael left its traces of destruction, which are gradually disappearing with the efforts of a swarm of compatriots from several provinces of the country.   In addition to agriculture, communications and the electricity sector were the hardest hit.

To see how the recovery is progressing, Díaz-Canel went to Bejucal, particularly to the Cuatro Caminos Popular Council, where the greatest damage caused by the storm was caused precisely by the collapse of electric and communications poles.

Yanilei Sanabria Díaz and Fernando Pérez, both territorial managers of the Electrical and ETECSA Companies in Mayabeque, commented on the progress of the recovery work in both sectors'.

In the case of telephony, service coverage has already reached 84 percent of the clients, but more than 2,800 services are still interrupted.  In the case of electricity, recovery is a little more than that, 94 percent.

Accompanied by the main authorities of the Party and the Government of Mayabeque province and the head of Construction, René Mesa Villafaña, the President continued his tour of the municipality of Bejucaleño to reach the Biopreparations Center, an emblematic scientific institution, founded by Fidel, whose mission is to provide outlets for the products generated in the Havana Scientific Pole, destined for the health system and commercialization abroad.

The center's production facilities are currently halted due to difficulties with the weather, although the damages caused by the hurricane were mainly concentrated in warehouses and infrastructure, and also in self-consumption areas.

The President of the National Defense Council then went to the urban center. In the Gomez-Maceo Park and its surroundings, he could appreciate the favorable atmosphere that is beginning to multiply among the population, to promote clean-up work after the passage of the storm.

The Cuban leader praised the level of response of the inhabitants and organizations, which almost in record time is reaching normality in the territory ¨and that we already have this level of recovery (in Mayabeque), has to do with the way in which the people have been linked to the work with the help of the FAR and the MININT, we move forward, now everything we do must be better¨, he said in an exchange with the population.

The final point of the visit was the ¨Rosa Elena Simeón¨ Teaching Polyclinic, the only one of its kind in Bejucal, which serves the population of 25 Family Doctor's Offices, in total more than 28 thousand inhabitants.

The damage caused by the impact of Hurricane Rafael was not significant, it was mainly on the protective blanket that covers part of the roof, a problem already solved ¨now they are better than when the cyclone hit.

As in the rest of the provinces affected by Hurricane Rafael, Mayabeque is also advancing in the recovery process, to progressively transform the image of the communities in the shortest possible time.
