The meeting provides an opportunity to discuss topics such as primary healthcare, emergency response, natural disasters, and pedagogy in higher medical education. It also serves as a platform for discussing postgraduate education, challenges, and experiences in the field of medical sciences.
The organizers have announced that Cuban and international experts, as well as representatives from international organizations, will share their insights through keynote lectures.
The congress of ELAM graduates, which began on Wednesday at the Havana Convention Palace, will feature panels, roundtables, research presentations, poster sessions, and other forms of disseminating medical knowledge and technological innovations.
On the opening day, the rector of ELAM, Yoandra Muro, emphasized that the Latin American School was the result of an idea conceived by the leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, 25 years ago. To date, the school has graduated over 31,000 doctors from approximately 122 countries.
Currently, approximately 1,800 students are studying medicine at the facilities of ELAM, which has been accredited by the International Board of Universities in Latin America and the Caribbean.
