On average, five parks will be synchronized every month

Havana, Dec 27 (RHC) Cuba will inaugurate 55 photovoltaic solar parks in the upcoming year.

In line with the national energy transformation plan, the government aims to install 92 energy parks by 2028, which will generate over 2,000 megawatts of power. Of these, 55 will be in operation by 2025, ensuring a daily supply of electricity.

During a recent parliamentary meeting, the Cuban Minister of Energy and Mines, Vicente de la O Levy, stated that the investments aimed at reviving the National Electricity System (SEN) will prioritize meeting the needs of the economy and the population, while also taking a gradual approach towards energy self-sufficiency.

According to de la O, the government's initiative aims to restore the capacity of decentralized power generation systems, including engines and thermal power plants that rely on domestic fuel. Additionally, the plan includes the rehabilitation of electrical grids, the promotion of energy efficiency, and the advancement of the energy transition, according to the official.

The year 2024 proved to be particularly challenging for the sector, in part due to the obstacles created by the U.S. blockade, the shortage of fuel, and equipment failures, which resulted in numerous disruptions to the SEN's operations, affecting the entire country.

De la O further stated that two additional photovoltaic solar parks will commence operations in February 2025, with six more to follow in March. On average, five parks will be synchronized every month. (Source: Cubadebate)
