Havana, January 1 (RHC)-- On January 1st, Cuba celebrates the 66th anniversary of its Revolution, immersed in the defense of its right to sovereignty, self-determination, and development, in the face of the growing hostility from the United States.

The outcome of the recent elections in the U.S. Empire, along with the rise of the far-right in Latin America, among other causes, shape a complex international scenario that the nation faces while promoting actions to address the domestic economic situation.

The more than 240 measures taken during his previous term by the next president, Donald Trump, which intensify the U.S. blockade, as well as the arbitrary inclusion of the country in a list of states supposedly sponsoring terrorism, have a global reach due to their coercive action on governments and financial and banking institutions.

However, in an internal context marked by product shortages, service limitations, including failures in the National Electric System, combined with the consequences of extreme weather events that affected the entire country, the Caribbean nation managed to maintain cohesion in 2024 and advance actions to resolve internal deficiencies and revitalize its economy.

Such effort was made possible thanks to the majority support of the Cuban people for the transformation process initiated on January 1, 1959, by the historical leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, in open defiance of Washington's geopolitical interests.

President Miguel Díaz-Canel expressed gratitude to his compatriots for the heroism demonstrated "in the face of the barbarity of the economic war being waged against us."

Let's remember the year that is ending, not for the obstacles and shortages. Let's remember what we overcame together, he pointed out in a message through the social network X.

It honors and deeply moves –he pointed out– to know oneself as part of this people who were not born destined for greatness. It has been earned through heroism and creativity in resistance.

In this sovereign struggle, Cuba counts on the support of governments, social movements, trade unions, solidarity activists, personalities, and many of its nationals residing in other latitudes.

This movement supporting the Caribbean country brings together more than 1,600 organizations in 152 countries.

As an expression of that support, last Monday the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples presented the Marathon of Love for Cuba, an initiative of the Continental Network of Solidarity in Latin America and the Caribbean, which will take place throughout 2025.
