Ballet Beyond Borders HAVBANA 2025 comes to a close in Cuba
Havana, Jan 11 (RHC) Dancers from various nations will gather today at the National Theater for the awards and closing ceremony of Ballet Beyond Borders (BBB) Havana 2025, a collaboration between Cuban and American companies.
The Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba (LADC) and the Rocky Mountain Ballet Theater once again came together to host the second edition of the event, which took place from January 7 to 11.
This edition featured master classes, conferences, performances, and a competition called Dance Challenge, open to dancers, professionals, and enthusiasts from various countries.
The competition was split into four sections: Ballet, Contemporary/Modern, Young Choreographer, and an Open category that encompassed hip hop, flamenco, ballroom dancing, tap, and all types of ethnic and cultural dance.
A selection of the international jury's winners will be the featured performers at the closing gala this Saturday, alongside educators, jury members, and other artists.
The audience will have the opportunity to witness the performance of Andile Ndlovu, a South African dancer from the Washington Ballet; Domsa Radu from Romania; Corinne De Bock from Italy, Ángel Vizcaíno from Mexico; a group from the Rocky Mountain Ballet Theater in the United States; among other international performers.
The first dancers of the Cuban National Ballet, Grettel Morejón and Dani Hernández, will perform the third pas de deux from the ballet Love Fear Loss by the Brazilian choreographer Ricardo Amarante, who recently made his debut at a star-studded gala in Switzerland.
LADC will showcase a selection of scenes from Habana Fénix, a highly acclaimed production that the company launched in 2023. This production earned its creator, the director, teacher, and choreographer Lizt Alfonso, the National Choreography Award from the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba.
Furthermore, the Cuban company will showcase The Man, the final performance of the Elementos show, which showcases the intersection of Hispanic and African cultures and celebrates the Cuban heritage with pride, courage, and integration.
Although the BBB Havana 2025 concludes as an event, a significant portion of its ensemble will travel to the city of Cienfuegos to perform at the Tomás Terry Theater on January 13th. (Source: Prensa Latina)
