Gibara Film Festival is reaching the deadline for registration

Havana, Jan 15 (RHC) The organizers of the 19th International Low Budget Film Festival in Gibara, Cuba, have announced that the deadline for submitting works for consideration will be January 31st.

This year, the event will take place from April 15 to 19, the same month it was always held during its first decade of operation.

The Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture of Cuba, the provincial government of Holguín, and the town of Gibara, has organized this festival, which brings together filmmakers and artists from various countries.

The festival’s official website explains that the event bears the name Cine Pobre -in English, Low-Budget Cinema -, which was given when the festival was founded. Gibara people and Cubans in general have continued to associate the festival with this name, by which is also recognized on the global stage.

This is a part of the legacy of the Manifesto of Low-Budget Cinema, initiated in 2001 by its founder, the renowned Cuban filmmaker Humberto Solás.

The contest will be open to submissions from filmmakers of all nationalities. The submissions must be in their original language and include Spanish subtitles.

The competition will be held in categories of feature-length fiction, short fiction, documentary feature, short documentary, animation, and experimental audiovisual.

The works will contest for the top honors in each category, known as the Lucía Awards, as well as for other accolades and secondary recognitions.

Registration must be done through the festival’s website. (Source: Prensa Latina)
