President of Cuba inaugurated Innovation Fair for Development

 

Havana, Jan 16 (RHC) The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, opened the inaugural Sustainable Development Innovation Fair in Havana on Wednesday, as part of the festivities for Science Day.

The head of state visited the 50 stands at the event, which were occupied by 120 exhibitors, and spoke with representatives from various provinces, companies, research centers, and organizations involved in the scientific advancement of the country.

Minister of Science, Technology, and Environment Armando Rodríguez Batista stated that health and biotechnology, information technology and digital transformation, tourism and sustainable development, construction and water networks, electrical energy, industrial development, integrated transport logistics, education, culture, professional services, food production, and territorial development are all represented.

The provinces will showcase 304 innovations, with Havana leading the way with 74, followed by Sancti Spiritus and Villa Clara, each with 24, and Pinar del Río with 23.

In the case of national organizations, 383 will be presented, with 51 from the Ministry of Communications, 49 from Tourism, 35 from Domestic Trade, and 32 from Energy and Mines and Construction.

According to Rodríguez, this is a chance to demonstrate outcomes and support impactful initiatives in the quest for innovative approaches to national objectives.

The Innovation for Development Fair encompasses a diverse program, including the Innovation Forum, the Government Management System based on Science and Innovation, and workshops on Artificial Intelligence.

It also features conferences, panels, and discussions on structures that foster innovation and local development, as well as the Youth Innovation Council session, award ceremonies, and the signing of agreements.

As part of the fair, the National Awards for Innovation and the Special Awards of the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment will be presented in the period of 2022 to 2023. (Sources: Prensa Latina, ACN)
