Havana, January 21 (RHC)-- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel affirmed this Monday that the return of Cuba to the list of countries supposedly sponsoring terrorism, by U.S. President Donald Trump, has the objective of continuing to strengthen the cruel economic war against the island.
On his account on the social network X, the Cuban president pointed out that the reinstatement of Cuba in the fraudulent designation "in an act of arrogance and contempt for the truth" is not surprising and has the purpose of domination.
He stressed that the result of the extreme economic blockade measures imposed by the tenant of the White House has been to cause shortages in the Cuban people and a significant increase in the migratory flow to the United States.
“This act of mockery and abuse confirms the discredit of the lists and unilateral mechanisms of coercion of the United States Government,” said Díaz-Canel.
The Cuban president asserted that “the legitimate and noble cause of our people will prevail, which will once again win.”
Trump, who has only been in office for hours, revoked this Monday the order of just six days ago of his predecessor, Joseph Biden, which excluded Cuba from the unilateral list of countries sponsoring terrorism.
He also announced that he will annul at least 78 “destructive and radical executive actions” of the previous administration, and stated that the measures would be “without effect” in five minutes.
On January 14, Biden made his decision, albeit belatedly, that Cuba “should no longer be designated as a State Sponsor of Terrorism.” He also issued a waiver for Title III of the Helms-Burton Act, also known as the Libertad Act, for a period of six months and rescinded National Security Presidential Memorandum 5 of 2017 on policy toward Cuba to eliminate the so-called restricted list.
The measures were received as a duty of basic justice towards the Caribbean country and as a step in the right direction, although the blockade remained in place.
