Cuba ratifies commitment to UNICEF

Havana, Feb 6 (RHC) Cuba has ratified its commitment to further enhancing collaboration with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), particularly in the field of health, where its expertise and achievements are highly regarded globally.

In his address to the first regular meeting of the UNICEF Executive Board, the Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, Ernesto Soberón, reaffirmed his country's commitment to actively participate in the development of collaborative initiatives in this field.

The diplomat also acknowledged the exceptional efforts of the organization on a worldwide scale, despite the challenging circumstances and constraints in terms of basic resources.

He stated that the Strategic Plan for the period 2022 to 2025, along with the rest of the Organization's programmatic documents, have enabled the entity to enhance its ability to coordinate the global response to the needs of children worldwide, particularly those still living in extreme poverty.

He also expressed his delegation's commitment to actively and constructively participate in the development and examination of the document, with the aim of ensuring that the final product adequately addresses the needs of children and adolescents, particularly those in the most vulnerable situations.

Soberón recalled UNICEF's assistance in 2024 to Cuba’s national endeavors in the preparation and response to tropical storms, hurricanes, and other natural disasters.

In this sense, he emphasized that the response of the organization has been crucial in the restoration of educational facilities, in guaranteeing access to water, hygiene, and sanitation, and in procuring medical supplies. (Source: Prensa Latina)
