Cuba halts activities on February 14 and 15 due to critical energy situation
Havana, Feb 14 (RHC) The Cuban government has announced the suspension of non-essential educational and work activities for this Friday and Saturday, due to the critical energy situation in the country.
This was confirmed in a statement issued by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, broadcast on national television.
The purpose of this measure is to help reduce electricity consumption, thereby alleviating the impact on the public. However, the statement clarifies that essential services for the public will be maintained.
The regulation further states that «employees who are absent from work due to this circumstance are entitled to receive compensation equivalent to their salary, in accordance with the provisions of the Labor Code.» (Source: Prensa Latina)
