Havana, March 1 (RHC) The Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Doreen Bogdan Martin, thanked Cuba for agreeing to host the Global Youth Summit, which will take place from March 11 to 13 in the resort of Varadero, in the province of Matanzas.
During a meeting with Rodolfo Benítez Verson, the Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations in Geneva, at the ITU headquarters in Switzerland, the official emphasized Cuba's active and constructive engagement as a member of the ITU Council, the organization's governing body.
In turn, Benítez emphasized the importance his country places on the issues addressed by the ITU, such as telecommunications, digital advancement, and artificial intelligence.
He explained that the Strategy for the advancement of artificial intelligence in Cuba is a component of the digital transformation of Cuban society. It is implemented responsibly and gradually, prioritizing economic and social prosperity while acknowledging the obstacles to its advancement in the nation.
Both parties discussed the Global Summit on Artificial Intelligence, one of the most significant events that ITU will host this year, to be held in Geneva in July.
The GYS-25 World Summit, organized by the ITU and the Ministry of Communications of Cuba, will serve as a crucial platform for young people from around the globe to exchange ideas and viewpoints on digital transformation and information and communication technologies. (Source: ACN)
