Havana, March 6 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel regretted the death, this Wednesday, of the performer, composer, arranger and music producer Edesio Alejandro.
On his account on the social network X, the dignitary sent his condolences to the family and friend of the outstanding Cuban artist.
“With the death of Edesio Alejandro, pioneer of fusion, Cuban music loses a very original creator, whose works have already immortalized his name in theater, film, radio, television and the emotional memory of the Cuban people,” Díaz-Canel wrote on that platform.
Earlier, the Minister of Culture, Alpidio Alonso, also published in X the feelings of the community of artists and people of Cuba for the unfortunate event.
“Today we received another painful news: the outstanding Cuban musician Edesio Alejandro passed away in Spain,” he said.
“We feel his loss very much, much loved by our people and especially admired among the youngest of the guild, whom he always supported. His work will endure,” said Alonso.
The renowned musician, who died in Madrid, was 66 years old and was a victim of prostate cancer. During the last months he was under medical treatment.
In the cinema we remember him in films such as Kleines Tropicana (1997), Madagascar (1994) and Clandestinos (1987), the latter two by Fernando Pérez.
Nominated for a Latin Grammy in 2010 for 100 Cuban Sones, a production that a year later had another Grammy.
This is a collection of five CDs that took three years of work and reflects Edesio Alejandro's interest in diverse genres of Cuban music, as he demonstrated with rumba.
