Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian activist with legal status in the United States, was arrested on March 8 for his involvement in demonstrations against Israel's atrocities in the Gaza Strip

Havana, March 22 (RHC) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez has conveyed his nation's backing for the call for the release of Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian student residing in the United States.

From his X profile, Rodríguez stated that the U.S. must cease its intimidation and harassment of foreign students who oppose Israel's genocide in Gaza, aimed at suppressing any criticism of the genocide they are promoting.

The young Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian activist with legal status in the United States, was arrested on March 8 and taken into custody at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Louisiana for his involvement in demonstrations against Israel's atrocities in the Gaza Strip.

The opposition to the action, coming from both ends of the American political spectrum, recently labeled the detention as a breach of the First Amendment rights, while thousands of demonstrators took to the streets of New York to advocate for the release of the Palestinian activist.

The Trump administration has been relying on a provision of the Immigration and Nationality Act, which grants Secretary of State Marco Rubio extensive authority to deport foreigners. (Source: Prensa Latina)
